I received my training to practice Health Coaching at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, which is the only nutrition school integrating all the different dietary theories—combining the knowledge of traditional philosophies with modern concepts like the USDA food pyramid, the glycemic index, the Zone and raw foods. I was also fortunate enough to receive lectures from some of the leading doctors and speakers in the fields of integrative medicine, nutrition, and fitness. It was an absolute honor to learn from the likes of Dr Andrew Weil, Dr. Mark Hyman, Geneen Roth, and Deepak Chopra, just a few of the amazing speakers we had at Integrative Nutrition.
I was born and raised in Redondo Beach, Ca where I grew to love all different kinds of sports. Soccer quickly became my passion and I dedicated much of my teenage years to playing club and High School soccer. I earned a college scholarship to play soccer at California State University, Monterey Bay where I also graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology with a Wellness Concentration.
After gaining 25 pounds my freshman year of college (yes, 25 lbs putting the freshman 15 to shame), I decided that I needed to do something about it. I never had issues with weight, especially because I was always playing soccer and working out. For some reason I thought I could eat whatever I wanted and would never gain weight and well…I was wrong. I visited a wellness center following my freshman year and talked to a couple of different people, including a nutritionist and a therapist, about what was going on. There were so many underlying reasons why I was gaining weight aside from all the unhealthy eating. I had a lot of emotional issues that were contributing to my weight gain, but my lack of sleep, and stressful workload balancing classes homework, and soccer is what really put me over the top. After meeting with the doctors’ and nutritionist, I was referred to an endocrinologist to have some tests done. She tested my blood, my hormone levels, and tested to see if I had any food allergies. I was told that I was insulin resistant, had abnormal hormone levels, and had sensitivity to dairy! I would have never known any of this if I hadn’t taken the step to go to a wellness center and I am forever grateful that I did. After making some easy changes to my diet and lifestyle, I could feel a huge difference in the way I felt inside and out. I lost 15 pounds that summer and gradually lost the rest and more as time went on. Since then, I have found my new passion, which is nutrition and overall health and well-being. Today, I feel better than ever and I’m thrilled to have a career where I can help others feel the same way.
