Another “Purify” Cleanse Testimonial!

My thoughts on the cleanse…
I was certainly apprehensive of this cleanse at first – especially the word.  Coming from a background of on/off diets, depriving myself of certain foods and social functions as a result, I almost felt that cleanse had a negative connotation.  I’ve always been intrigued by them but have been apprehensive to try it, especially with the criticism I assumed I would get from other people (i.e. why would you do a cleanse, you don’t need to lose weight, are you starving yourself, you’re crazy, etc.). After talking with Jen and going on three work trips last month, I knew that this would be the perfect time to reset and recharge.  That was my main motivation and I’m also a full time bridesmaid this year ;-) so wanted to jump-start a little weight loss before wedding season.
I couldn’t have been more right with my decision to choose Zrii.  It was fairly easy to follow and having the fabulous facebook group made it that much more beneficial and fun. I have NEVER followed through with something like this before!  I was so proud of myself.  For me, I think I’m feeling most of the positive results now that I’m off the cleanse.  I had an uncomfortable, bloated feeling throughout the week but I’m noticing that it’s going away as I’m weaning off the fiber.  Today I feel clear-headed, high energy/mood, and about a 4 lb. weight loss.  I feel fantastic.
Similar to others in the group, I learned some great takeaways:
-I don’t really ‘need’ caffiene, I just like the habit.  I made it this morning because I missed it and I couldn’t even drink it, nor did I want to.
-I used to always reach for carbs/sugar when I was starving. I learned that I can and will feel more satisfied if I pick something substantial like nuts/fruit.
-I don’t have to miss out on social functions – but I don’t always have to fully participate and that is OKAY. Twice I went with out with friends and there was alcohol/frozen yogurt involved.  I didn’t ‘participate’ in the activity but I was present and social and enjoying myself.  This was huge for me.
-Sugar is my worst enemy.  I strongly believe it effects my mood, other food choices, and energy levels.  This is the one I need to 85% cut out of my diet – I do LOVE sweets so I don’t think I can 100% cut it out but definitely for now.  I need to wean off of this more – I like to call it my ‘drug of choice’.
WOW – I’m sorry that was so long.  I guess I had a lot to say :-)

ZRII “Purify Cleanse” Power Group Testimonials

If you’ve been thinking of doing a cleanse and want to learn more about one that really heals you from the inside out, helps you to learn what your body REALLY needs, boosts metabolism, reduces cravings, and overall gives you more energy once you are done…you have come to the right place. Below you will be able to read a variety of testimonials stemming from a group cleanse that my partner, Jen Husdon, and I guided and supported through a private Facebook group.

A man’s perspective of the Purify cleanse.
Doing this with Sue was a great benefit. We kept each on track and knew that we had to go through the bad (oil and fiber) to get to the good (real food for dinner). I actually enjoyed the shakes and didn’t miss breakfast and lunch too bad because we had our snacks in between. We had fun figuring out what we were going to make for our dinner meal. We also had fun making the meal together. Reading your posts and knowing that there were others out there struggling through was beneficial as well. I lost a total of 10 lbs. and am excited to lose another 20 or 25 more. Thanks to all for your support.

My recap…I feel great, and I am down 7 pounds. I had a horrible week personally, but stayed on track, which is big for me. Realized I do not need food to get through emotional times. This is HUGE for me. So thank you to (private name) and (Private name) for doing it with me, and keeping me on track, as well as Courtney Hermann. This group was great also, it see how others were doing, I didn’t feel like I was alone. Thank you to everyone!

Paula B, IL

My recap…I feel the cleanse was a very positive experience for me for many reasons. First, I learned that I can do this. I have struggled just about my whole life with my weight and with using food to cope. This week has taught me that I can eat clean, follow through and not use food to cope with daily stresses. Secondly, I have learned what it feels like to be hungry and how to deal with it in a good way. In the past, if I would feel hungry, my choice were not always good. I have learned that I can eat clean and feel satisfied. Thirdly, I have learned that doing something like this with your spouse and sister can be very rewarding. Bob and I were a real team this week with buying all of our food, preparing and cooking all of it. Bob even said one night, “Isn’t this fun cooking together?” So that made the experience fun too! My sister Paula and I also talked on the phone 1-2 times per day to see how it was going and to encourage each other.

Not only did I learn all of this, but I lost 12 pounds too!! I feel amazing and very proud of myself. I am so grateful for our group, because the encouragement, suggestions and just funny comments really helped the go back faster and be fun!!

If I had anything negative to say, it would be in connection with a bladder condition I have and the affect that something in the cleanse had on my bladder, but I was able to deal with it and finish the whole cleanse.

Thank you so much to Courtney and Jen for organizing this group!! and thanks Courtney for all of your help and encouragement that you always give me.

All in all I thought this cleanse was an incredibly positive experience… or rather, I thought the experience produced incredibly positive results. For me, a lot of the dietary restrictions were nothing new – I don’t drink a lot of coffee or soda, I’m not a big sugar person, I don’t put a ton of salt on my food, and I only eat whole wheat pasta/bread so cutting out the white flour stuff wasn’t that tough. What WAS tough was not being able to have dairy! I LOVE cheese, but I don’t eat too much of it, and I rarely feel that I have to deprive myself in order to eat healthily, so it was interesting that because of feeling a little hungrier and adjusting to eating primarily fruits and veggies I started craving things that I NEVER crave. I RARELY eat fast food, but last week I noticed EVERY SINGLE fast food place that I drove by!
That didn’t last too long, though – just an interesting observation of how I responded to a little deprivation.
I really enjoyed how whenever I felt like something sweet, reaching for fruit rather than anything with cane sugar in it really WAS satisfying. I think THAT was the biggest benefit of the cleanse for me: being forced to get in the habit of reaching for a fruit or vegetable or some almonds or walnuts as a snack instead of heading straight for dairy or carbs.
It was also a fun challenge to have to think of new, fun ways to prepare different vegetables for dinner. My boyfriend and I cooked together almost every night this week which was a really nice practice that we both want to continue – it’s more fun to eat with friends!
Which brings me to my next word on the cleanse which is: DO IT WITH FRIENDS! It was SO great to have this Facebook group as support. In the middle of the day when I’d start feeling hungry or cranky or tired at all I would check the FB group to see if anyone had posted anything new. I SO appreciated everyone’s candor, and humor, and advice.
Today (first day after the cleanse), I feel light and happy and rejuvenated. I’m having lunch at one of my favorite restaurants today – a plan I’d made in advance so I would have something to look forward to – and although four days ago, I was secretly planning out my order, and also planning to reaaaallly go to town on my favorite indulgences, today I don’t feel like I want to do that at all. I’m excited to go eat some good food, but I feel like I’m going to want to eat something that I know will make me feel good.
I think for most people, myself included, this is a pretty big distinction from the way we normally eat. I think this is the main benefit of the cleanse: to give your body the opportunity to dictate what it needs and wants. Though this is a pretty simple revelation, I think it’s a profoundly important one and I hope to hold on to it :]
Thanks, Jen and Courtney for all your support! You guys have been so great – I’m already recommending the cleanse to friends who’ll probably want to hop on the cleanse next month.
Much, much love to you all, and thanks again!

i completely agree with this! really changed my mind set. I always go for carbs when I am starving…now, I know I can eat fewer nuts and it will keep my fuller longer. I also want to really cut out sugar – I DVR’ed the 60 minutes from last night but am curious to watch it. I have such negative effects with it. I have to admit I was a little sad this morning knowing that it’s over! Having this group made it SO much better!

It is day 6 for me. Today has been a GREAT day! I woke up feeling great, it is a beautiful day here in CT, and I just went for a long walk with a girlfriend and came home to enjoy some lunch. I am feeling so energized and clear-headed. I am also feeling so grateful for all of you. I was reading over everyone’s experiences with the cleanse this morning and started think that it is pretty amazing how a group of people (strangers for me!) got together and supported one another through a common goal. I don’t personally know any of you and the kindness, honesty, humor, guidance, etc. etc. you provided me with was so great and I am just very thankful =) (sorry for the sappiness, but really, I mean it.) So thank you all for the opportunity to participate in this-I wouldn’t have done it as successfully without you guys.

The bottom line for this cleanse, in numbers, was a 3 pound loss and I got into a smaller size of jeans on Sunday. Probably more important was the gain in confidence that I can shop, cook and eat very healthy food in a lot of different circumstances … and that eating well does equal weight loss and feeling better. Thank you all for your postings and support.

Quinoa: One of the worlds best superfoods and my favorite whole grain!

Quinoa (pronounced keen-wah), is a nutritional powerhouse with ancient origins. It was originally cultivated by the Incas more than 5,000 years ago; they referred to it as the “mother of all grains.” It contains all nine essential amino acids, making it a great source of protein for vegetarians. Quinoa is also high in magnesium, fiber, calcium, phosphorus, iron, copper, manganese, riboflavin and zinc.

While quinoa is widely considered a grain, it’s actually the seed of a plant called Chenopodium or Goosefoot, related to chard and spinach. Quinoa is a gluten-free grain and has a similar effect as other whole grains in helping to stabilize blood sugar.

It has a waxy protective coating called saponin which can leave a bitter taste. For best results, rinse quinoa before you cook it or even soak it for a few hours or overnight. When cooked, it has a fluffy, slightly crunchy texture. Try it in soups, salads, as a breakfast porridge or as its own side dish.

For quinoa, and whole grains in general, the majority of digestion occurs in the mouth through chewing and exposure to saliva. For optimal nutrition and assimilation, it is vital to chew your grains well and with awareness. A great meditation is to find a calm place, without distractions, to sit down for your meal. Make it a habit to chew each bite 20 times or more. See how this simple practice can help your digestion and overall focus for the rest of your day.

Recipe of the Month: Quinoa Salad

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cooking Time: 15-20 minutes

Serves 6

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups cooked quinoa

3 cups water

1/4 cup lime juice

1/2 cup olive oil

1 cup parsley, chopped

1/2 cup scallion, chopped

1/2 cup tomato, diced

salt & pepper to taste

Directions:

  • Rinse quinoa well with cool water in a fine mesh strainer until the water runs clear.
  • Add rinsed quinoa to sauce pan over low heat; stir with wooden spoon until all water has evaporated and grains emit a faint, roasted aroma.
  • Add water and a PINCH of sea salt; stir once to dislodge any grains that may be stuck to bottom of pan.
  • Cover and bring to boil.
  • Lower heat and simmer, covered, for about 10-15 minutes, or until all water is absorbed; let sit, covered for about 5 minutes before fluffing with fork.
  • Combine all ingredients in bowl, add the juice of a lime,  and serve room temperature.

*Try a Mediterranean version of this salad by using tomato, cucumber, small crumbles of feta cheese, onions, and even some avocado! YUM!
